Brat: …Speaking of the Asher Personality…
Lana Vawser (31 Jan 20): In meetings, in homes, in conferences, in churches, pay attention to what the Lord is saying and doing in the children for in engaging with them the Lord is going to reveal profound revelation, divine insight and in many places what is released through the children will release the fire of God and move of His Spirit in POWERFUL ways.
Brat (01 Feb 20): All I can tell you is what happened on my side of the story, since the rest are silent. Jesus sent me back to St Patrick’s for the third time in this epic journey on the day before Epiphany (5 Jan 20). In that week I asked Fr George to pass along a good word regarding my blog to the bishop. The following week Bishop Samuel Azariah presided at the services and the one that I attended was full of spontaneous Arc Speak to my blog (and not from sermon notes that he had prepared.) After the service I quickly darted past the priest and bishop to check in with Bob Bland to get an update on his wife’s recovery from back surgery. Did we talk even thirty seconds? I turned around to formally greet the bishop and Fr George. (The bishop is originally from Afghanistan.) And they were gone. Literally the whole area in front of the church was deserted! EVERYONE had vanished! The next week KC Robertson preached her first sermon with us after her ordination. She received her priest stole. The next week Jesus said I didn’t have to go, because the services were combined and they were having their annual meeting to vote in the new Vestry (= Church Board). Since a large part of my original pain happened during my brief tenure on the Vestry ten years ago, I did not want to stir up old wounds, from which I’d healed. Now Fr George is arc speaking through the church newsletter that we are missed when we are not in church. Why should I go back if we can only talk through Arc Speak?
Donna Schaper (30 Jan 20): Give every group three chances and then quit. But when you quit, realize that meetings are inevitable in the for-profit and not-for-profit worlds.
Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz: “You are about to see some things that are wonderful,” the Rebbe elaborated: “Just in this matter of America, the President of the United States is Trump. Who could have dreamed it would be?”
Revelation 15: 2 And I saw what looked like a sea of glass glowing with fire and, standing beside the sea, those who had been victorious over the beast and its image and over the number of its name. They held harps given them by God
Binyomin Adilman (in “Jail Call” 28 Jan 20): When are the kneading troughs found next to the oven? When the oven is hot and the dough is ready to bake. The frogs voluntarily went into the glowing hot ovens even though they were not commanded concerning the sanctification of G d’s name, nor were they promised any reward for being the agents of the plague. They gave their lives for the sanctification of G d’s holy name in carrying out the plague. All the more so we, who are commanded to sanctify G d’s name (through total self-sacrifice), are required to go to any necessary length to ensure the sanctification of G d’s name in the world.
Revelation 16:13 Then I saw three impure spirits that looked like frogs; they came out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet.
Brat: Ya’ mean those others were good frogs and these were bad ones?
Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz: “Maybe,” the Baba Baruch answered. “These are all signs of our righteous messiah. That is why you should rejoice. We will be happy.”
Gal Einai: Like the other children of Jacob, the Torah recounts why Leah named her baby Asher, “She said, ‘Happy am I! For the daughters will call me happy,’ and she called his name, ‘Asher.’” [Genesis 30:13] In Hebrew, Asher means “happiness.” Leah is simply overjoyed. From here on out, joy is the main characteristic of the tribe of Asher. In Jacob’s blessings to Asher he says, “As for Asher, his bread shall be fat, and he shall produce royal delicacies.”[2] When Moses blesses the tribe of Asher, he says, “Blessed be Asher more than all sons; let him be the favorite of his brothers, and let him dip his foot in oil.” [Deuteronomy 33:24] Asher is literally seeped in joy – so much so that everyone around him is infected with it. They are happy to be in his company. He is, “the favorite of his brothers.”
Micah 6:5 O my people, remember now what King Balak of Moab devised, what Balaam son of Beor answered him, and what happened from Shittim to Gilgal, that you may know the saving acts of the LORD.”
Brat: What happened?
Numbers 23:11 Balak said to Balaam, “What have you done to me? I brought you to curse my enemies, but you have done nothing but bless them!”
Rabbi Shaul Leiter (30 Jan 20): What is this concept of extracting the sparks? The entire creation was made by G-d. If you think deeply into this idea, it is easy to understand that every part of creation has Divine energy hidden in it. Our purpose as Jews is to elevate creation and return it to a complete state of holiness. We do this by using the material world in an appropriate holy way. Walking to do a good deed reveals and elevates the holy spark in our bodies; when we make a blessing on food and use the energy from it to do something positive, we elevate the holiness in the food. When we use animal skin to make a Sefer Torah, Mezuzah or Tefillin we reveal and elevate the holy sparks in the animal.
Revelation 2:14 Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: There are some among you who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin so that they ate food sacrificed to idols and committed sexual immorality.
Brat: Balaam got fat off of Balak’s barbeques. That’s what I’ve understood.
Pastor Steve Dittmar (28 Jan 20): Our hearts are sprinkled from an evil conscience. The shame or blame and tinge of guilt or accusation, are addressed again by His blood. Our hearts are sprinkled from an evil conscience. Our conscience again is clean, free from all sin and dead works.
Rabbi YY Jacobson: At first, when the donkey realized what was happening, he cried even more piteously. But then the animal hit on a plan. As each spadesful of dirt hit his back, the donkey would shake it off and take a step up on the growing mound of earth. Eventually, the mound grew tall enough for him to jump out of the pit.
Numbers 23:12 He answered, “Must I not speak what the LORD puts in my mouth?”
Rabbi YY Jacobson: On 25 Shevat, 5746, Feb. 4, 1986, the [Lubavitcher] Rebbe responded:[7]
We do not know. The mysteries of people’s journeys are beyond our human finite comprehension. But then he offered an incredibly comforting insight. Sometimes, the Rebbe wrote to this struggling soul, your soul has inherent power and potential that can literally inspire the world. But you are unaware of this facet of your soul. You don’t really know who you really are. Then you discover a serious challenge in your life. And in order to overcome it, you need to dig very deeply to find the stamina and resources to overcome adversity. You are thus compelled to travel to an uncharted place in your psyche that would have otherwise remained unexposed. In that process, you come across the true power and light of your soul. You discover your true extraordinary powers, which can then illuminate your life and your world in incredibly powerful ways.
Brat: So, just to be clear, you can have sanctuary while you wrestle with your psyche and soul and I can’t, even though Jesus promised His bride that His Father’s house has many mansions, so I would have a place to work in peace and quiet in an anchorhold with a tribe that loves me for who I am, while I steward the story for the greater whole? And this Pharaoh spirit is to help the cause of redemption? Just clarifying…
Quinn G. Caldwell (02 Feb 20): I mean, of course personal virtue is worth cultivating. But moral perfection … yikes. The truth is there are no perfect people, only people who pretend they are. Perfection as a requirement for access to God not only makes for a lonely deity. It also creates a whole lot of pressure for us to ruthlessly suppress failings and foibles, first in ourselves and then projected on the people around us. From there, it’s all pinched lips, ruler smacks, and bonfires.
Brat: Thomas Merton had an anchorhold. Julian of Norwich had an anchorhold. Neither one of these were perfect. Stop splitting hairs in your position of power and do what is right.
Rabbi Avraham Brandwein: The brain is the place of thought which plans how to bring into action those desires which come from the heart. When one works for physical, material needs, one’s will and thought are egotistically derived and he has become enslaved to the needs of his body.
Rabbi YY Jacobson: We have the ‘fight or flight’ response, guided by the amygdala. Of course, at times, one or the other are the way to go. But there is always another perspective that must inform the former two.
Brat: Mine was not a flight response. I ran to check in with Bob Bland before turning to greet the bishop. According to their own rules an anchoress reports to the bishop. Don’t make assumptions and go preaching at me without even asking me my intentions.
Stars Go Dim (in “Jail Call” 28 Jan 20): “You are Loved” []
We hide pain in the weirdest places
Broken souls with smiling faces
Fighting for surrender
For now and the after, yeah
Just look around and you’ll see that people
Are scared to say how they really feel
Oh, we all need a little honesty
Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz: “Cyrus did not take upon himself to act for the Jewish people. He did not build the Temple or reinstate the Davidic Dynasty. He merely enabled the Jews to act independently. That is precisely what Trump is doing. He is not giving Israel a gift or forcing something upon us. He is telling us to do what is our right and obligation to do in our own country and he is doing so without any pre-conditions. Trump announced that it is Israel’s right to express our sovereignty in Judea and Samaria.”
Rabbi Shaul Yosef Leiter (30 Jan 20): During the earlier plagues, Pharaoh had free choice to release the Jewish people. Since he acted defiantly against G-d, his free choice was taken away and he was not assisted to repent. Nevertheless, if evil Pharaoh had truly fought it, even he was still capable of returning to G-d and to have saved himself and his people from the remaining plagues.
John Edgerton (29 Jan 20): Oh, I remain confident, do I?
Rabbi YY Jacobson: Why should you, Moses, be terrified? It is all Me, not him. I, your loving Creator, I am the one who is behind his hardness and inflexibility. It is not an objective reality; it is part of My reality. It is an integral part of the road toward redemption. Its entire purpose is so that I can perform all My miracles in Egypt. The purpose of his resistance, orchestrated by the Almighty, is to help the cause of redemption, not to stop it.[5]
Rabbi Avraham Brandwein: Therefore, immediately after the children of Israel were delivered out of the land of Egypt, they were commanded the Mitzvah of tefilin which corresponds to the heart and brain. This is true redemption from slavery.
Brat: We are to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. [Deuteronomy 6:5] Isn’t Body included in that redemption from slavery; not just head and heart? Your peoples’ prayers were answered by God sending Moses and the people responded.
Kris Vallotton (01 Feb 20): You may make attempts to love and be loved, see and be seen, and hear and be heard… all the while being unable to pass through the mammoth mountain of disconnection.
Talitha Arnold (01 Feb 20): Prayer
God, gentle in your power and strong in your tenderness, help us to be your partners with one another all across your good earth. Amen.
Steve Shultz: Are you ready to see God bring divine intervention and justice in your life…as only He can?
Micah 6:8 He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
Kathie Walters (in “Jail Call” 28 Jan 20): Some people take the suggestions of doctors more seriously than what the Lord says or instructs them to do with their health. Eating from the tree of the knowledge of good is as much death as eating from the tree of the knowledge of evil – it is the same tree.
Gal Einai: Asher’s happiness is expressed by the physical blessing in his portion of the land of Israel, which highlights the taste of the fruits of that portion, delectable delicacies. It is no coincidence that Asher is the tribe of the month of Shevat, whose soul-sense is eating and whose important date of the month is the 15th of Shevat, the new year of the trees. Fruit trees remind us of the happy Garden of Eden, in which the main sustenance was the fruits of the trees. Of course, we must know how to employ our sense of eating—not to eat like brutes until our stomachs are bursting. Instead, we should eat like a king, who is in control of his needs and cravings. If we do so, we can truly taste the delicious flavor of the fruits, which become “delicacies of kings.”
Brat Journal (28 Jan 20): Dad would probably hide in his denial, but for me it was suddenly real all over again. In a flash I could taste the courthouse on my tongue and smell it in my nose. The tension is still stored in my muscle memory. It is another PTSD hole in the chainmail shirt. I am orphaned by Dad’s and David’s denial. It is not my orphan mentality. It’s that they are calloused in their apathy. It is a denial on their parts that they pretend their actions (and non-action) do not affect me, because they pretend it does not affect them, and then justify it with logic. It all makes perfect sense, except there is a hole in the soul. Just as Dad keeps cutting down trees even though he knows it deeply affects me. In his mind and soul, it doesn’t affect him, so therefore I don’t matter. (Yes, I said “I” not “it.”) “Toughen up, Buttercup,” can only go so far. Dad’s Silent Treatment to David after Mom’s death triggered David into madness, which exploded over time into violence upon Dad, which mushroomed out on to me and the Silence from the Churches. There is no blame. It just keeps looping around.
Anna Blake (31 Jan 20): The truth is that we’re all inconvenient creatures. Calming signals take the blame out of behaviors. That’s what Preacher and the dogs like; they aren’t wrong for being who they are. Labels of good and bad lose importance because in the big picture, we’re all just breathing here together for a little while.
Rabbi YY Jacobson: Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the pit is to shake it off and use the dirt to climb one step up. How do you do that? By always remembering that “I hardened his heart.” That every single hardship and challenge eclipsing your light and obstructing your spiritual growth has no substantive power of its own; it is really a husk that contains a Divine seed, a Divine energy, a Divine opportunity. It is merely another pathway in your journey to greatness.
Anna Blake (31 Jan 20): There aren’t so many of us now. Just three dogs. It’s Preacher Man’s yap-a-versary. He has the soul of a pirate, the athleticism of a flightless bird, and the voice of an operatic tenor having dental work without anesthesia. Barking is his superpower. Preacher appointed himself my Warrior-Guardian and as such, growl-yips at the Dude Rancher each time he comes within ten feet of me. If we are all in the same room Preacher does an impression of every siren he’s ever heard, nonstop without taking a breath. My life is that valuable to him. (His primary calming signals are tense agitation, looking away, licking his nose, the air, and yawning. Correcting any of these is cause for panic peeing, usually inside the house.)
Molly Baskette (31 Jan 20): Listening for, and looking for, God can be like that. God is present, throughout our frenetic busyness—but scarcely noticed until we start to actively pay attention, to tune in to God’s siren song amidst all the straight-up sirens of life.
Brat Journal (28 Jan 20): Last night as I was praying, my heart/mind kept looping. My head knows there is no breaking the goddamn SILENCE. But my heart and mind keep searching for a way through the wilderness anyway.
Micah 6:3 “O my people, what have I done to you? In what have I wearied you? Answer me! Is conflict avoidable?
Micah 6:1 Hear what the LORD says: Rise, plead your case before the mountains, and let the hills hear your voice.
Brat (27 Jan 20, shared twice): The condition of our condition:
Rev. Phil Hooper: But this is not the end of the encounter.
Molly Baskette (31 Jan 20): Ask yourself, “Where is the song here? What happens if I play it backwards? What is the secret message?” Wait for an answer, a divine communication. Remember that silence is sometimes how God sings, but there’s meaning and purpose even in what seems like no-answer.
Rabbi Shaul Leiter (30 Jan 20): Slaughtering the gods of our Enemies (Bo 5780)
Lana Vawser: The Lord showed me that fear and intimidation will cause many people to shy away from these opportunities, assignments, invitations and new realms that God is going to open up. Don’t partner with the intimidation. Partner with the Lord in obedience, because in your obedience to step into those places, you are going to be overwhelmed and overcome by the TANGIBLE presence and power of God.
Talitha Arnold (01 Feb 20): God’s gentle partners. Now that’s something to aspire to. That’s a true blessing—for us and this good earth.
Anna Blake (31 Jan 20): Like I said, we’re working out this sleeping together thing. Preacher is a worrier; too much anxiety to be so close, too much fear to go out of sight. The first few years, Preacher slept under the bed and darted out like a snapping turtle when needed. Then for years, he got off the bed as soon as I coaxed him up. Finally, a boudoir photo. Now a few mornings a week he’s still sleeping when I wake up at 4 am. Seems I’m a restless sleeper by human standards, but sleeping in a dogpile is a calming signal for me. Finny is already awake wondering if it’s breakfast yet. Jack tries to get under the covers one last time. Preacher is am-bark-tious, greeting the pre-dawn sky doing scales to warm his vocal cords.
Binyomin Adilman (in “Jail Call” 28 Jan 20): Rabbi Moshe Teitlebaum of Uhely (Yismach Moshe, Ki Tisa, p.188) writes that perhaps it is because they began keeping the Shabbat in Egypt. (See Tur Orach Chaim 281) Our sages have said that one who keeps Shabbat according to all its laws is forgiven from any transgressions, even if he served idols as heartily and enthusiastically as the generation of Enosh. (Shabbat 118b) Furthermore, in the place where baalei teshuva [penitents] stand, even perfect tzadikim are not granted admission. (Shabbat 34b) Therefore, at that critical moment, the Israelites were elevated by the mitzvah of Shabbat. They were thus permitted to carry out the mitzvah of taking the Pascal Lamb, at great personal risk, and thereby affected a resounding sanctification of G d’s name.
Revelation 15: 3 and sang the song of God’s servant Moses and of the Lamb:
“Great and marvelous are your deeds,
Lord God Almighty.
Just and true are your ways,
King of the nations.
Kathie Walters: Every move restores a truth, and it brings new songs and different ways of doing things. It brings vitality and excitement. God has His own purpose in a new season. Sometimes people are called for a season, but when the season is over, they don’t discern the change and carry on just the same. And the “good thing” becomes a hindrance to the “God thing.”
Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz: “The only thing limiting us until now has been ourselves. And Trump acknowledged that in this deal, stepping aside and telling us to act as an independent nation, something we have failed to do until now, especially regarding Judea and Samaria. It was fitting that we should have done so and would have prevented all the difficulties until now. But we didn’t and now Trump is telling us to act as a nation should. We can only hope that the Israeli government will listen to an outside party.”
Bill Yount: Like a “Chariot of Fire” we ascended upward penetrating through the very heavenlies – breaking through barriers of international proportion. I saw a mantle of unprecedented Evangelism falling to the earth. It seemed to slip right off the Father’s Throne. It was big enough for the whole earth to wrap itself twice in. The Glory of the Lord began covering the earth.
